  1. I have narrowed down my ancestor Aurelia Yancey to come get from Barren County, KY. A lot of people from Kentucky migrated to Missouri where most of my roots are. Have you looked into Missouri?

    • Hello there Iva. Yes, I’ve looked somewhat in Missouri and found one branch there. My husband’s father is from Bowling Green, Barren County, KY. Thanks for your suggestions

    • Kristin, thanks for reading my post. Unfortunately, until the last 50 years my ancestors tended to stay put. Yes I know KY was “west” and in fact the area that most of my ancestors settled was the Kentucky County of VA. Many of the “oldtimers” were born in VA even though they never moved.

  2. I understand your frustrations. I’m having trouble searching for my some of my gr gr and gr gr gr’s in just the same way. I will re-check the free and slave census and i’ve always searched ship records but nada…But don’t give up. Our ancestors are out there somewhere in the paper trail.
